Modus Operandi Wins U.S. Navy Contract Targeting Information Integration Challenges
MELBOURNE, Florida, December 6, 2003 - Modus Operandi, a leading business and information technology solutions company, has been awarded a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research contract by the Naval Air Systems Command. Sponsoring the contract is the Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition program Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), a next generation strike aircraft weapon system under development for the Navy, Air Force, Marines, and U.S. allies. In addition to JSF, other identified user organizations include the U.S. Air Force 45th Space Wing and Jacobs Enterprise Information Services, a Modus Operandi strategic business partner.
According to Modus Operandi President & CEO Peter Dyson, the $750,000 contract, entitled Collaborative Data Access (CODA), "responds to the challenge of integrating disparate legacy mission-critical software systems, which may have been implemented years ago but are still functioning, with systems developed using new technologies. Our goal is to provide a way to integrate these systems faster and with less risk at significantly less cost than is currently possible, while preserving the enormous investments already made."
The focus of the CODA tool is create a unified model of the information contained in disparate information systems. CODA will provided automated discovery of the information structure of distributed data sources and will create an industry standard information model that can be used for accessing the data by new systems.
During the Phase I effort, Modus Operandi identified critical integration challenges for the JSF program, focusing on the critical area of automated logistics. The company also developed a prototype of the CODA tool, which has already seen practical application on projects for the Army and Air Force.
The Phase II objective is to build a production release of CODA and support its initial deployment with JSF and other users. Ultimately, the CODA tool will be available commercially, both as a stand-alone tool and as part of Modus Operandi's WAVE enterprise information integration product line. WAVE integrates heterogeneous data sources and supports geographically distributed team-based collaboration and sharing of the integrated information. CODA will add powerful new capabilities for building the enterprise information model and will work seamlessly with WAVE as well as third party tools that support XML-based information modeling standards.
