PRESS RELEASE
Modus Operandi Awarded Two Air Force Contracts
Fortifying
the Knowledge Management Framework at the 45th Space Wing
MELBOURNE, Florida, June 13, 2007 – Modus Operandi, a leading software and information integration technology company, has been awarded two Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contracts by the Air Force Research Laboratory. The contracts, together valued at $850,000 over two years, will be performed in support of the U.S. Air Force’s 45th Space Wing and will further extend Modus Operandi’s current Wave® architecture for semantic data integration. Both contracts will strengthen the Knowledge Management Framework (KMF) at the 45th Space Wing as well as Modus Operandi’s Wave product offering.
The KMF initiative seeks to make the right information available when and where needed by providing a single access point into the 45th Space Wing’s distributed data sources. The KMF is based upon Modus Operandi’s Wave product, which leverages BEA’s AquaLogic Data Services Platform™ and WebLogic Application Server™. Wave federates data from distributed data sources including relational databases and unstructured data using an ontology model that unifies data at the conceptual and business object level.
The Phase II SBIR award, “Community Ontology Refinement with Adaptive Learning (CORAL)” will provide the KMF with reasoning capability for applications such as access policy verification and ontology optimization. CORAL will improve the scalability of semantic web and query and search applications by enabling inferencing over federated instance data.
The Phase I contract, “Wave Security Policy Harmonization, Enforcement, and Reliable Evolution (WaveSPHERE)” will address semantic-based security policy definition and enforcement within single and across multiple communities of interest or enterprises that exchange information. The overall result is to prevent unauthorized access to and misuse of shared information.
Says Modus Operandi President and CEO, Peter Dyson, “Both CORAL and WaveSPHERE build upon our Wave product for semantic integration which is already deployed at the U.S. Air Force 45th Space Wing. These projects directly contribute to the development of our next generation Wave technology by producing a more robust solution for technical applications that require reasoning and security capabilities for access to critical information.”
