Modus Operandi Welcomes Dr. Richard D. Hull as Chief Scientist

• Technology executive and research scientist brings leadership and depth of knowledge in semantic technology, spanning knowledge representation, ontologies, and natural language processing

MELBOURNE, Florida, June 20, 2006 – Modus Operandi, a leading software and information integration technology company, announced the appointment of Dr. Richard D. Hull to its management team in the position of Vice President and Chief Scientist. As the lead executive for new technology efforts, Dr. Hull will spearhead the company’s innovation and research in the areas of semantic interoperability, semantic analysis of structured and unstructured data, and knowledge representation.

Richard Hull is an experienced entrepreneur who has dedicated his career to the development of leading-edge technology for intelligence analysis, military simulation, drug discovery and a wide array of research applications. Natural language processing, knowledge representation, ontology design and development are among his primary interests. Dr. Hull has over 20 years of government and industry experience as a research scientist and software developer. He has held positions with Elagent Corporation, Merck & Co., Inc. and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). At Merck Research Laboratories, Dr. Hull was a co-inventor of several patented technologies including Text Influenced Molecular Indexing and Latent Semantic Structure Indexing. In 2002, Dr. Hull founded Axontologic, a text analytics software company providing advanced applications to the pharmaceutical industry, where he was chairman, president and CEO. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing from the University of Central Florida.
