Modus Operandi Awarded Air Force Research Lab Contract
for Protected Network Architecture Framework

Green Wave will ensure trustworthy information across the Department of Defense’s network-centric operations.

MELBOURNE, Florida, Oct. 15, 2008 – Modus Operandi, a leading software and information integration technology company, has been awarded a $100,000 contract by the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (AFB) to develop a cutting-edge framework for evaluating the integrity of the end components in a communications network. The contract, entitled Green Wave: Assuring Trust between the Edges, is sponsored by the Office of the Secretary of Defense under the Small Business Innovation Research program, and will support the Department of Defense’s (DoD) network-centric operations.

Under Green Wave, Modus Operandi will develop an open architectural framework, along with a supporting protocol stack, that allows the trust associated with network elements to be evaluated and acted upon within a networked environment. This will include a sophisticated semantic technology service that allows subjective information to be incorporated into trust calculations. Modus Operandi will also provide an analysis of the security of the overall architecture..

“In order for the DoD to leverage the advantages of network-centric operations, it is critical to ensure the quality of the information that feeds decision-making processes. One of the biggest threats to missions is the ability of an enemy to inject spurious information into network operations,” said Mark Heileman, vice president, C2 Situational Awareness, Modus Operandi. “Green Wave will help to alleviate that threat by advancing software protection techniques and technologies that employ a hardware element.”
