Modus Operandi Awarded U.S. Army Contract for Predictive Intelligence Capabilities

Persistent Vigilance creates intelligent semantic agents to help predict instantly recognizable situational awareness
for Army analysts.

MELBOURNE, Florida, Sept. 30, 2008 – Modus Operandi, a leading software and information integration technology company, has been awarded a $70,000 contract by the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) to establish a predictive intelligence capability. The contract is sponsored by the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM) at Ft. Monmouth, N.J. through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. The contract, entitled Persistent Vigilance, will support the Army’s next generation Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance systems such as the Distributed Common Ground System-Army (DCGS-A).

Under the Persistent Vigilance contract, Modus Operandi will research and develop new technology to automate the production of actionable intelligence. The research will investigate the application of semantic technology that can reason over intelligence information from multiple sources. The resulting instantly generated, context-sensitive intelligence will speed the discovery, fusion, and understanding of information by analysts, and lead to better informed decision making.

“Modus Operandi will leverage existing technology and perform important research on increasing the velocity of intelligence cycles. The key element is agent-based semantic reasoning over flattened networks,” said Richard Hull, chief scientist, Modus Operandi. “The DCGS-A warfighter will have access to an unprecedented volume of intelligence data, therefore the need for automated analysis is critical on the battlefield.”
