Modus Operandi Wins U.S. Air Force Contract to Develop Advanced Knowledge Discovery Solutions
MELBOURNE, Florida, September 15, 2004 — Modus Operandi, a leading business and information technology solutions company, has been awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research contract for the Missile Defense Agency by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome, New York. The contract will be performed in cooperation with the Air Force’s 45th Space Wing as part of their Knowledge Management Initiative.
The $100,000 contract entitled Ranger: Spaceport Knowledge Discovery Tools will address the problem of extracting and integrating unstructured and semi-structured data, such as email messages, briefings, reports and letters, with structured data originating from multiple data sources situated in diverse organizations involved in space launch and range operations.
Ranger will leverage and extend Modus Operandi's powerful web-based enterprise information integration platform, WAVE, which is already in use at the 45th Space Wing. WAVE breaks down barriers to enterprise information, manages knowledge assets, supports team-based collaboration, and delivers critical metrics for decision support and performance management. New features will include configurable document adaptors and automatic knowledge discovery features including a lexicon-builder and an innovative search and discovery tool under design by subcontractor Axontologic, Inc. of Orlando, Florida.
Says Modus Operandi President & CEO Peter Dyson, “Only a small fraction of the digital information needed by decision-makers is stored in structured forms such as databases. The majority is unstructured information which is typically distributed across the enterprise. Accessing this information is time-consuming, and key sources are often overlooked, impacting the cost, timeliness and potentially the quality of critical decisions. With the technology developed under this contract, our customers will be able to pull together structured and unstructured information to increase their return-on-knowledge.”
