PRESS RELEASE
Modus Operandi Awarded $730,000 Contract to Develop Technology for Semantic Interoperability of Army C4ISR Systems
According to Stewart Fenick, the Army’s technical representative on the contract, “The initial target application for SE-Wave technology and tools will help the Intelligence and Electronic Warfare (IEW) Division in their ability to maintain Post Production Software Support (PPSS) efforts, specifically relating to the Guardrail Common Sensor (GRCS) intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) system.”
According to Modus Operandi President and CEO, Peter Dyson, “The need for semantic interoperability stems from the difficulty in integrating systems – encompassing modern systems as well as legacy systems – that were developed using different vocabularies and different reference frames for their data. Traditional integration approaches that add additional program logic to translate between different frames of reference quickly run into challenges relating to cost, complexity, and performance. Semantic interoperability takes a different approach, by making the data smarter, rather than the applications. Using this approach, systems are able to exchange data in such a way that the precise meaning of the data is readily accessible and the data itself can be translated by any system into a form understood by that system. In theory, this represents a major breakthrough in how we build and integrate very large systems. With SE-Wave, Modus Operandi is taking theory to practice, providing the technology and tools that will enable the achievement of the vision of semantic interoperability.”
