Modus Operandi Awarded U.S. Air Force Contract to Develop Secure Cloud-based Information Exchange

Modus Operandi (MO), a leading software and information integration technology company, has been awarded a contract by the Air Force Research Laboratory to develop a secure, cloud-based information-sharing framework.  Known as Nublu, the cloud framework will enable users to securely exchange information used to support various military missions.

The Phase I contract is sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research through the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program.  Modus Operandi will be partnering with the University of New Mexico to accomplish the Nublu research effort.

Under terms of the contract, Modus Operandi will develop an assured information-sharing framework for cloud-based systems that leverages the company’s ongoing work in the areas of policy-based usage management and semantic interoperability.  Modus Operandi will employ a novel approach to information sharing that treats security as a commodity that can be dynamically provisioned within the cloud, along with other cloud resources.

“This framework will enable military users to fully enjoy the many benefits of using a cloud-based network knowing they are doing so in a secure environment,” said Dr. Mark Heileman, senior scientist, Modus Operandi. “They will be able to dynamically and securely share information across multiple domains, to deliver the power of information to ensure mission success.”

The main advantage of cloud systems is the automatic provisioning of resources according to current demands. In a military setting, there will be multiple missions interacting with the cloud infrastructure, and this new framework will allow each mission to do so according to those missions’ individual security requirements.
